Aphrodite at Hawk's Nest

Hawk’s Nest beach lies just north of
Port Stephens on the coast of New South Wales
as you head towards Queensland.
Nearby lie the other splendidly named areas of
Tea Gardens and Raymond Terrace.
The huge cumulus clouds and the vivid sea
reminded David of the Donald McGill style of
saucy seaside postcards, hence the ravishing
beauty emerging from the waves.
The original photograph only has two figures,
engaged in conversation, strolling along
the beach. David painted in a third,
himself, walking with them so that he could
join in the conversation.
