Alfred at Valdemossa
You can get summer squalls in the
Mediterranean almost without warning.
Some are very violent and they are often quite
dangerous, especially if you are out at sea.
This was one such.
Valdemossa is a small harbour on the north
side of Majorca, not far from Deya, beloved of
Chopin and Georges Sand.
In order to capture the force of the waves
and give texture to the scudding clouds Paul
used a very high speed monochrome analogue
film and a 35mm camera.
The ship, painted with deference to the
Alfred Wallis style, adds to the drama.
