The Railway Friendly bar

Size on canvas 920x1140mm
This photograph was taken when Byron Bay
railway station was still in use. Ten hours north of
Sydney by rail, the service was suspended on
economic grounds with the onset of
low cost air travel.
The Railway Friendly Bar backed onto the station
platform so that travellers could await the train
whilst reading the newspaper and nursing a cold
schooner of lager.
The significance of the bird and egg collection is
open to interpretation.
